These round live bark wood photos are made from real basswood slabs with natural bark edges. Each piece is laser engraved directly into the wood, so the image becomes part of the material rather than sitting on top like a print. Because the bark and grain are left natural, no two pieces are exactly the same. You’ll see real wood texture, growth rings, and edge variation in every photo.
After engraving, each piece is sealed with multiple coats of clear lacquer to protect the surface and bring out the detail of the wood. A sawtooth hanger is included so it’s ready to hang when it arrives.
These pieces are most often used as memorials. The engraved image and natural wood make each one a lasting way to honor and remember someone important.
These round pieces work best for one person or pet. Size choice mostly comes down to how much detail you want to see and whether you’re adding names/dates. The listed sizes are measured bark edge to bark edge. Because the bark is natural and varies from piece to piece, the usable “photo area” is typically a couple inches smaller than the overall diameter.
8” Diameter - Best for simple portraits and small text (name/date)
10” Diameter - Best for more detail and more room for names/dates
12” Diameter - Best for the most detail, larger text, and a bolder display piece
Quick rule: if you’re between sizes, go one size up—it gives more room for faces and helps the photo read better once the bark edge is accounted for.
Photo fit check: If your photo won’t work well for the size you selected, we’ll follow up before engraving. You’ll also receive a digital proof showing how your photo is laid out on the bark piece (placement and cropping) before anything is engraved.
You don’t need a “perfect” photo to get a great result. We can enhance old or blurry photos, and we can also remove backgrounds when needed. Upload the best version you have, and we’ll help with the rest. Check out our examples at the bottom of the page.
